One single piece of advice? Mix it up.

Don’t always do the same kinds of things with every trip. Don’t always rent a hotel room or a private home – they’re private and comfortable, but hostels and couch-surfing offer opportunities to meet people, and people can help you come up with the best ideas. Flying is fast, but nothing beats the views you get driving or taking the train. And the major tourist attractions are great, but going just two blocks over can offer a taste of the true local experience.
